Science Beyond the Walls:

Two and a half years, 250 students, nine field trips, and a 100 percent return rate (though, there were very close calls with a couple of boots)—not bad results for an extended outdoor research activity. Jean Aresco’s sixth-grade science students in the Perkins-Tryon district have been making the short trip to the Perkins “Twin Lakes” four times a year for the past two years to study water quality, ecosystems, soil science, and weather in a wetland habitat in transition.
