Geography 6303: Geographical Analysis II
Time offered: Fall Semester M W F (even numbered years)

Course Description:
The objective of this course is to familiarize you with some specific geographical analysis tools used that involve advanced statistical concepts such as spatial autocorrelation, geographically-weighted regression, kriging, advanced point pattern analysis, etc. so that in your future research/work you will be able to recognize when a situation calls for some sort of quantitative analysis and have an idea about what sort of analysis should be performed. The heavy emphasis of homework assignments in the grading reflects the necessity of learning by doing. You will also obtain, manipulate, and manage your own data set for some of the work in this class, including the term project. An important component of this learning process is good preparation, and you are expected to read all assignments prior to class.

Course Grading:
(1) Homework Exercises -- 50%
(2) Final Project -- 50%, due Monday of Finals Week.

Topics covered:
Evolution of Spatial Theory
Spatial Data
Visual Exploration of Spatial Data
Geographically Weighted Regression
Point Pattern Analysis
Spatial Regression
Spatial Autocorrelation
Inferential Spatial Statistics
The G* Statistic
